Sontronics HALO is a high-quality dynamic microphone created by the creator of the Sontronics brand - Trevor Coley. The device has been specially developed for use with guitar amplifiers. The microphone gives the user a dynamic capsule suspended on four springs in an interestingly designed, round, retro casing that adds style to the whole structure. As the manufacturer proudly announces - this is the best sounding dynamic microphone that can be placed under a guitar stove!
Sound engineers and technicians have long used dynamic microphones to record guitar amps in both live and studio situations. Nevertheless, due to the fact that the creator - Trevor Coley - is a guitarist, it was decided to create something that will look a bit more exciting than a regular microphone placed in front of the amplifier's grill.
UNIVERSAL MICROPHONE
The Sontronics HALO is a truly indispensable tool for any recording or performing guitarist as it produces extremely accurate and realistic results. The recorded signal is completely clean and EQ-free, so it fits perfectly in the mix.
Thanks to the frequency response and the presence of the peaks, the Sontronics guitar microphone is well suited for recording not only other amplified string instruments (such as electric violins), but also other instruments. These include instruments such as banjo, 6- and 12-string acoustic guitars, bouzouki and others. What's more, the microphone will also work fantastic on a harmonica!
While this Sonstronics mic was never designed with vocals in mind, it is often used with vocals in mind. Using HALO, many people achieve remarkable results, especially in live performances (French team Caravan Palace is noteworthy!). However, recently Sontronics has also developed a new Sontronics Corona microphone, which gives excellent vocal results and also offers a vintage look.
Sontronics HALO can be placed directly in front of the amplifier without worrying about overloading the dynamic element. You can experiment with the setup, however we advise you to position the microphone 3 to 5 cm from the grill at the edge of the speaker. What's more, when recording amplifiers in the studio, you don't have to crank them up to maximum volume. Even with a low amplification of the signal, the Sontronics HALO will capture the tone and character of the amplifier.
