RME HDSPe AoX-D – MADI/Dante Card
RME HDSPe AoX-D is an advanced PCIe x4 audio card that combines two network ports with a headphone output, AES3, MIDI, and internal expansion headers for up to four MADI ports. Whether used in a Thunderbolt™ expansion chassis or built into DAWs or audio processors, this card transmits and receives up to 512 audio channels and offers numerous mixing and routing capabilities.
Connectivity and Features
- 2 x Gigabit Ethernet (802.3 compliant)
- 1 x AES/EBU I/O
- 1 x Headphone Output
- 1 x MIDI I/O
- TotalMix FX
- ARC USB
The PCIe x4 card, occupying only one slot, transmits and receives up to 512 network audio channels on two separate RJ45 connectors. The network audio channels can partially be replaced (or extended in the case of the Milan® version) with MADI signals by adding up to two optional optical or coaxial extension cards. This makes it possible to integrate four MADI input signals, four MADI output signals, and up to 256 network audio channels per direction—on macOS and Windows.
Expandability to 512 Channels with Optional AoX-MADI-EXT-BNC and AoX-MADI-EXT-SFP Cards
Compared to the massive channel counts, the ¼” stereo headphone jack takes up a lot of space on the card—for good reasons, as it allows monitoring of any signal reaching the card—from the computer, the network, or the optional MADI inputs. Additionally, a digital AES3 input/output and MIDI on a breakout cable make this card a versatile and fully-fledged professional interface.
Mixing with the 256-Channel TotalMix Engine
The number of channels can be managed in two steps. Using a driver dialog or web interface, the user first adjusts the network vs. optional MADI channel count, and then selects which inputs reach the 256-channel TotalMix engine. The remaining 256 channels are passed straight through. All 512 channels are visible to the DAW for recording. TotalMix offers basic functionality without effects but includes benefits such as presets, layouts, loopback, submixes, and more.
TotalMix FX – Mixing/Routing with Superior Features for Studio and Live Work
Since 2001, TotalMix has added unlimited routing and mixing to RME’s audio interfaces. Its unique capability to create as many independent submixes as there are available output channels has made it the most flexible and powerful mixer of its kind.
