4-string Bass Guitars

Tradycyjne gitary basowe mają cztery struny E1, A1, D, G,. i skonstruowane są podobnie jak inne gitary. Posiadają korpus z litego drewna lub z komorami rezonansowymi. Najczęściej gryf zaopatrzony jest w progi, ale produkowane są też gitary bezprogowe. Do strojenia gitary basowej używane są klucze. Struny basowe są grubsze od gitarowych, a menzura jest dłuższa. W gitarze basowej stosowane są przetworniki różnych typów, dedykowanych dla gitar basowych. Najczesciej mają większą i wynikającej ze zwiększonej ilości zwojów. Najczęściej stosowane są jednocewkowe przetworniki, przetworniki "split-coil" oraz przetworniki typu humbucker. Najbardziej popularne rodzaje gitar basowych to P-Bass, Jazz Bass i ich pochodne, choć na rynku dostępnych jest bardzo wiele różnych modeli (np. gitary z krótszą menzurą).
