Gitary Double cut charakteryzują się cechami, które sprawiają, że są obecnie jednymi z najbardziej uniwersalnych instrumentów na rynku. Ich charakterystycznymi elementami są korpus z dwoma wcięciami i wklejony w niego gryf. Zwykle gryfy modelu Double cut mają 22 lub 24 progi i często charakteryzują się menzurą 25” co plasuje je między menzurą modeli Strat i LP. Typowy układ elektryczny w tych gitarach to dwa humbuckery, często z możliwością rozłączania cewek, choć w konstrukcjach niektórych producentów można spotkać inne rozwiązania jak np. dwa przetworniki P-90 . Gitary Double cut wyposażone są w mostki ruchome lub stałe w tym mostki toptail. Gitary Double cut używane są w wielu stylach.
