Model Stratocaster wprowadziła na rynek firma Fender w 1954 roku. Gitary typu Stratocaster ze względu na ich uniwersalność i wygodę grania znajdziemy także w ofercie wielu innych producentów. Instrumenty te charakteryzują się najczęściej klonowym gryfem z klonową lub palisandrową podstrunnicą. Szyjka instrumentu przykręcona jest do korpusu wyposażonego zwykle w trzy przetworniki typu single lub w połączenie przetworników single i humbucker. Menzura typowego strata to 25 i ½". Stratocaster to jeden z najpopularniejszych modeli gitary wykorzystywany przez artystów takich jak Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton i wielu innych.
