Model Stratocaster wprowadziła na rynek firma Fender w 1954 roku. Gitary typu Stratocaster ze względu na ich uniwersalność i wygodę grania znajdziemy także w ofercie wielu innych producentów. Instrumenty te charakteryzują się najczęściej klonowym gryfem z klonową lub palisandrową podstrunnicą.
