Aktualnie na rynku dostępne są różne rodzaje interfejsów. Do najbardziej popularnych zalicza się Thunderbolt i USB. Można zauważyć, iż obecnie różnica między złączami Thunderbolt 3 i USB-C jest niewielka. Wtyczka Thunderbolt 3 ma taki sam kształt jak wtyczka USB-C, a tym samym sprawia to, iż pasuje do takich samych portów. Dzieje się tak za sprawą tego, iż obecnie Thunderbolt korzysta ze złączy USB-C. Pozwala to także na szybkie np. zasilanie urządzeń.
