Podzielimy je na dwa typy:

-Pojemnościowy małomembranowy – jest to mikrofon mniejszy gabarytowo z tym że jest jeszcze kilka istotnych różnic pomiędzy nim a jego większym bratem.
Mikrofon małomembranowy posiada większy zakres dynamiki , pasmo przenoszenia oraz jest bardziej wytrzymały pod względem maksymalnego ciśnienia akustycznego. Wielkomembranowy zaś ma mniejszą ilość szumów oraz jest bardziej czuły.
Dlatego małomembranowe pojemnościówki są częściej wykorzystywane przy nagrywaniu instrumentów.
