ART VOICE CHANNEL - Tube Channel Strip with Digital Connectivity

The Voice Channel is a channel strip with extended functionality and digital connectivity. Whether you integrate it into a larger recording system or use it as a standalone preamp and interface, its an ideal solution for singers, content creators, and anyone looking for a comprehensive tool for vocal recording.

The signal path begins with a Class A tube mic preamp. The tube stage features an authentic 12AX7A that can run at low voltage for warm harmonics and drive, or high voltage for increased bandwidth and clean headroom. Variable impedance lets you tailor the preamp to your microphone. Leave at maximum for set and forget convenience, or fine-tune for additional tonal flexibility, especially with dynamic and ribbon mics.

The Voice Channel might have the most comprehensive dynamics section of any ART product, with a compressor, de-esser, and switchable expander / gate. Each element can be bypassed individually, and a dedicated meter shows gain reduction and the expander / gate status.

A four-band semi-parametric EQ offers advanced tone shaping so you can get a fully produced sound right at the source. Low and high frequencies are switchable, while the low and high mids both offer over five octaves of sweepable range. The EQ can be placed before or after the compressor circuit at the touch of a button, or bypassed for easy comparison against the dry signal.

The output metering section has both an analog VU and a multi-segment LED meter for total visibility of peak and average levels. Beyond the convenient metering, the robust output section distinguishes the Voice Channel from every other ART channel strip. In addition to analog XLR and 1/4 jacks, it features USB, AES/EBU, S/PDIF, and optical connections, plus word clock input and thru jacks.

The Voice Channel is a versatile tube preamp and instrument DI that will enrich any source, but its extended vocal processing tools, all-in-one design, and ability to connect directly to just about anything in the modern studio establish it as the most flexible channel strip that ART has ever designed.

What is the ART Voice Channel used for and who typically uses it?

The ART Voice Channel is a versatile channel strip mainly designed for vocal recording. It’s ideal for singers, content creators, and sound engineers who need a high-quality tube preamp with advanced signal processing and digital connectivity.

What kind of tube is used and what sound does it provide?

It uses a 12AX7A tube that can run at low voltage (warm harmonics, saturation) or high voltage (greater headroom, clean tone). This gives users tonal flexibility tailored to their needs.

Does the unit include built-in dynamics control?

Yes, the Voice Channel features a compressor, de-esser, and a switchable expander/gate. Each module can be individually bypassed, and a dedicated meter shows gain reduction and gate status.

How does the EQ work and how can it be adjusted?

The device includes a 4-band semi-parametric EQ. It can be positioned pre or post compressor in the signal chain with the push of a button. Low and high bands are switchable; both mid bands are fully sweepable over a wide range.

What digital connections does the ART Voice Channel offer?

It includes USB, AES/EBU, S/PDIF, ADAT Optical, and Word Clock (In/Out). It can function as a direct audio interface via USB to your computer.

What are the main technical audio specs?

A/D dynamic range is 106 dB (A-weighted), frequency response up to 100 kHz (analog), THD less than 0.015%, max gain up to 70 dB. High-pass filter is set at 100 Hz.

Is it compatible with different types of microphones?

Yes, variable input impedance (150 Ω to 3.4 kΩ) allows it to be matched with dynamic, condenser, and ribbon microphones, offering fine tonal control.

What are its dimensions and weight?

The ART Voice Channel measures 88 mm x 482 mm x 233 mm and weighs 4.76 kg. It is a 2U rack-mountable unit suitable for professional studio environments.
