What is a balanced cable?

A balanced / symmetrical cable contains three wires inside – two signal wires (positive and negative) and a third for the ground. Both channels transmit the same signal, but one is inverted in phase, which, when combined, effectively isolates and removes any noise or interference.

What to look for when choosing an XLR cable?

• Cable Thickness - The thickness of the cable is very important. It should not be too thin, as it would be prone to mechanical damage such as stepping on it, pressing, or cutting. On the other hand, it shouldn’t be too thick to maintain flexibility, which is appreciated during everyday use. SSQ cables have a 6mm thickness and are double-shielded. This design is an excellent compromise between durability and everyday usability.
• Connectors and their assembly quality - It is crucial that the connectors are tested and of high quality. The connectors used in SSQ cables have undergone thousands of hours of testing, ensuring their quality and durability. The entire assembly is complemented by professional connector installation and protection with a branded heat-shrink sleeve at the cable ends.
• Protection against interference - The shielding in a microphone cable is very important. It protects the signal from potential interference. There are cheaper cables on the market with only 30% shielding, which we do not recommend. SSQ cables feature a copper braid with a minimum 90% coverage, comparable to much more expensive alternatives.
