A special edition of the models that started it all
In 1977 BOSS introduced the now widely known OD-1, PH-1 and SP-1. Often referred to as the "Highlight Series" by collectors because of their red, yellow and green colors, these three pedals started an effects revolution that continues to this day. With over 15 million units sold and a classic compact design, BOSS remains incredibly relevant and continues to influence music makers around the world. Now BOSS fans around the world can enjoy the classic sounds that inspired this one-of-a-kind, hand-held reappearance kit, accompanied by a message from BOSS president Yoshihiro Ikegami.

OD-1 Overdrive: Timeless Sound
Forty years ago, the OD-1 ushered in the era of overdrive effects. During its development, BOSS engineers sought a more natural sound than typical fuzz units. For this purpose, an asymmetric circuit is used, which produces many harmonic sounds. It provides a warm, pleasant tone that is similar to the natural breakdown of a tube amp, but with a unique character and response. Today, the original OD-1 functions in a slightly enhanced and versatile form as the Super Overdrive SD-1, which has been in continuous production since 1981.

The OD-1 is hugely loved by guitarists as a standalone pedal for all kinds of musical styles, as well as a front amp for distortion. The refresh of the OD-1 includes a circuit with four optical amplifiers, similar to the earliest versions of the product. Additionally, the diodes have been carefully selected to accurately reproduce the original response characteristics of the OD-1.

SP-1 Spectrum: The most unique of all BOSS products
In the long history of compacts, the BOSS SP-1 has been remembered as one of the most unique. Derived from an effect built into some early Roland guitar and bass amps, the SP-1 is basically a single band parametric equalizer with a fixed level boost. The Spectrum knob allows you to shift the center frequency from 500Hz to 5kHz, while the Balance knob will adjust the mix of direct sounds and effect sounds while maintaining an overall level of consistency.

Using a guitar, the SP-1 produces a sound similar to a wah pedal in a fixed position, but with more concentration in the frequency center. However, the SP-1 was mostly used by bassists who found it to be the perfect companion for groundbreaking performances. In both applications, the Balance knob is very useful for filling sound with a slightly direct tone if necessary.

The SP-1 was produced in limited numbers until 1981. This is probably the hardest BOSS product to obtain on the secondary market, and therefore the highest priced. Now, each individual programmed resistor has been carefully hand-adjusted, ensuring the full reproduction of the SP-1's original sound.

Made in Japan, just like the Original
The refreshed OD-1, PH-1 and SP-1 are manufactured exactly like the originals, with wiring and circuit matching done by hand on a dedicated production line in Japan. All electronic components are carefully selected to fully replicate the original pedal sounds and responses. Each is also equipped with a useful, modern performance improvement that has no effect on the sound. Such as including a PSA compatible power section with protection circuitry and noise filter, enhanced battery lock and an LED which influences the on/off status. (On the original pedals, the main function of the LED was to show the status of the battery by lighting only when the switch was pressed.)

PH-1 Phaser: Classic four stage modulation
By 1977, the Phaser had been known for some time, and several popular competing models had appeared on the market. For the PH-1, BOSS engineers worked to create an improved design with greater clarity and a deeper modulation range. Compared to other four-stage phasers, the PH-1 has a more natural and mellow sound, with a richer low-end response. Also, thanks to the integrated boost circuitry, there is minimal level difference when the effect is on.

For the reissue of the PH-1, the FETs for the four phase shift circuits have been carefully matched to match the response characteristics exactly to the original pedal. In addition, each individually programmed resistor has been carefully hand-adjusted, replicating the same process that started building the original PH-1.
