Pianina cyfrowe mogą występować w wersjach mobilnych (tzw. Stage piano) bądź w wersjach zabudowanych , które wyglądem przypominają tradycyjny instrument i są traktowane jako stacjonarne. Pianina cyfrowe w 99% posiadają dynamiczną, ważoną klawiaturę. Akustyczny instrument posiada 88 klawiszy, dlatego też jego cyfrowy odpowiednik ma ich tyle samo- nazywamy to pełną klawiaturą. W zależności od potrzeb możemy wybrać model podstawowy które posiada niewielką ilość brzmień lecz do nauki i gry na najważniejszych brzmieniach pianina wystarczy. Istnieją również modele bardziej rozbudowane które pozwalają na bardziej zawansowane granie a nawet zastąpienie całego zespołu w pojedynkę.
